Clare Morpurgo recognised in national learning outside the classroom awards

Clare Morpurgo, co-founder of Farms for City Children, has been shortlisted for the Lifetime Achievement award in the national Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC).

The awards are presented annually by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (CLOtC) and recognise those people who have had a significant impact on the lives of children and young people through their commitment to providing exciting and inspiring LOtC opportunities.

Clare Morpurgo founded Farms for City Children with her husband Michael in 1976 because she noticed through her work as a teacher that children had a poverty of experience which hampered children’s confidence, imagination and ability to learn. She has been shortlisted for her visionary idea of giving urban children the opportunity to engage with life on a real working farm, and for her commitment to this idea for nearly 40 years.

Lyndsey Nassim of Scout Activity Centres, which is sponsoring the Lifetime Achievement Award, said:

“Scout Activity Centres are pleased to be sponsoring this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. We were impressed by the candidates, thank them for the contribution they are making to our schools, and wish them all the best in the future.”
